language (Trajan Books for Kids, Nov. 27, 2013)
This is a modern retelling of the classic Goldilocks tale. Goldilocks is a young TV and movie star who just finishing a film in the Canadian Rockies when she learns that her stepmother wants to send her on a two year tour around the world -- all to make Goldilock's parents even richer. Singing and performing are no longer Goldilock's dreams and news saddens her. But then Goldilock's GPS malfunctions and leads her to a big spooky house high up in the mountains. She encounters food that is too hot, too cold, and just right, chairs and beds that offer challenges. But she also encounters a family of bruins that teach her to live her own dreams and nobody else's. The story is both funny and heartwarming and young readers will want to read it again and again. The book is illustrated using the same 3D technique as in "Toy Story" and "The Croods". It is part of the "Re-Spun Yarns" series that takes old stories and breathes new life into them. In the classic "Goldilocks", the moral of the story seems to be that if you're going to break into someone else's house, eat their food and break their stuff, you'd better be prepared to jump out a window to get away. Children deserve a better, funnier, and more uplifting story than that.
